Ai Weiwei: Making Sense

Venue: The Design Museum
Exhibition Design: Ai Weiwei Studio
2D Designer: Twelve Design Studio
Lighting Design: Lewis Hannaby for Beam Lighting Design

Photography: Ed Reeve

Borrowing theatrical technique for museum discipline, Lewis created large, homogeneous fields of light across Ai’s floor installations, fine-tuning colour temperature and spectral balance for each so materials read at scale. Hard cut-offs shape boundaries of light and dark, using positive and negative space as wayfinding. In the atrium, Colour House runs a five-minute naturalistic daylight cycle that reveals nuance and craft as tones gently shift.
