The Boy in the Dress
Venue: Royal Shakespeare Theatre
Company: Royal Shakespeare Company
Director: Gregory Doran
Composer: Robbie Williams & Guy Chambers
Designer: Robert Jones
Lighting Designer: Mark Henderson
As lighting technician on the RSC’s new musical, Lewis collaborated with lighting designer Mark Henderson and the wider creative team to realise a vivid, pop-bright stage language. He designed and built several key practicals, most notably a wireless LED pixel dress that could be triggered and animated in performance, alongside a suite of show-specific practicals that kept faces flattering and scenery glistening in saturated colours. The practicals were engineered for quick turnarounds in tech, with reliable wireless control, even diffusion, and pixel-mapped effects that supported choreography and storytelling without glare.
“The set by Robert Jones is one of the stars of this show… brilliantly complemented by the lighting design of Mark Henderson.” — Plays To See.
